SIGUR ROS http://www.sigur-ros.co.uk sigur rós consists of jón þor (jónsi) birgisson (vocals, guitars), kjartan (kjarri) sveinsson (keyboards), orri páll dýrason (drums) and georg (goggi) holm (bass). the band were formed by jónsi, georg and original drummer ágúst in 1994. they were later joined by kjartan and when ægúst left the band after the recording of ágætis byrjun in order to pursue a career in graphic design, he was replaced by orri. sigur rós hail from iceland, and rightly claim to bring you the beautiful landscape of their homeland with their music. it's impossible to fully justify it with words, so the best advice would be to check out the media page and listen to some tracks from their astonishing back catalogue. sigur ros have released four albums so far, plus one remix album (von brigði - recycle bin). the first album, recently given a worldwide release for the first time, is called von (hope). frequently unrecognisable from the bulk of their subsequent work, von is an experimental and ambient work, which many believe to be a concept album (something the band deny, however). The band really found their feet with their second album, the masterpiece that is ágætis byrjun (a good beginning). the album was originally released only in iceland, but was discovered by brighton's fatcat records, who snapped the band up and released the album in the uk in august 2000. the band attracted a huge critical acclaim throughout the world in the second half of 2000, particularly in america. this resulted in a frantic hunt by major us labels to secure the rights to their material in the states. large quantities of cash were offered, although in the end the band chose the deal which gave them most artistic freedom. this was with mca records. the band toured north america for the first time in april and may 2001, and the vast majority of the dates sold out straight away. - (Read more)

SoundRabbit http://www.soundrabbit.com/ SoundRabbit formed as a four piece band in January 2007, with their first show at a 1,600-capacity theatre at the University of Wyoming. "Crickets," remembers Chris, the band's drummer. "But those crickets were dancing, as were the fifty people who came out." Indeed, SoundRabbit has noticed that their live show has an infectious effect on audiences, and the press has taken note as well. As the title of their debut album would indicate, the rooms are indeed becoming exponentially more crowded... as was the case at their two sold out CD Launch Party shows in Boulder. The band is creating quite a buzz locally in the Rocky Mountain towns of Boulder, Denver, and Fort Collins, and leveraging the web and one-week-a-month regional tours to expand far beyond the state. Described as "non-formulaic music of true songwriters" by Colorado Music Buzz magazine and "kick ass" by national acts like Guster, SoundRabbit has a fervent grassroots following with whom the band stays intimately involved through their web-based "Backstage" membership program. - (Read more)

Spin Doctors http://www.spindoctors.com/ Formed in 1988 in New York City, in 1990 the Spin Doctors were signed to Epic Records/Sony Music by a&r executive Frankie LaRocka. The band's Epic debut EP Up For Grabs was recorded live at Wetlands in Lower Manhattan and released in January 1991. (In 1992, these EP tracks were remixed and supplemented by additional live recordings to form the album Homebelly Groove.) In August 1991, the Spin Doctors released their full-length debut album Pocket Full Of Kryptonite, co-produced by Peter Denenberg and Frankie LaRocka. Relentless touring and a wave of positive press kept the album alive into the next year, when sales began to increase dramatically. …Kryptonite was certified gold in September 1992 and received an additional boost from the band's October appearance on "Saturday Night Live." Reaching the one million mark in January 1993, …Kryptonite entered the Billboard Top Ten one month later. By June 1993, the album was triple platinum and had breached the Top Five among Billboard Pop Albums while spinning off two major hit singles: "Little Miss Can't Be Wrong" and the No. 1 Rock radio song of 1993, "Two Princes." Ultimately, Pocket Full Of Kryptonite sold over five million copies in the US and another five million overseas. "[Their] popularity is based on universal rock & roll virtues," said Rolling Stone, which put the band on the cover of its January 7, 1993 issue. "The Doctors aren't trying to blaze new trails-they know we've been down this way with the Stones, Curtis Mayfield, and a few of their other touchstones. But the proof-plenty of it-is in the party." In June 1994, the Spin Doctors released their second Epic album, Turn It Upside Down. Once again co-produced by Peter Denenberg and Frankie LaRocka, the album featured new originals like "Biscuit Head," "Bags Of Dirt," and "You Let Your Heart Go Too Fast." The band set out on a three-month headlining tour, and played to immense crowds at the Woodstock and Glastonbury festivals. - (Read more)
