The Dark Aether Project http://www.progrock.net The Dark Aether Project has been an ever-mutating musical entity since the concept for the group first revealed itself to multi-instrumentalist Adam Levin during an early Spring 1997 weekend of work with the Seattle Guitar Circle - a group that traces its origins to the work of King Crimson mainstay Robert Fripp's Guitar Craft seminars. The first solid lineup featuring Levin on Chapman Stick/Loops, Yaman Aksu on guitar and Brian Griffin on Drums made its performance debut on November 2 1997 in Baltimore, Maryland. This trio recorded the group's self-titled debut CD during a weekend recording session in January of 1998. The CD featured guest vocalist Jason Wilson on three songs. Wilson performed in concert with the band during their 1998 concert schedule which saw them touring with several well known European and US based artists. In the late summer of 1998, Wilson was replaced by Ray Weston (Echolyn). During this time Levin switched from Stick to a custom built 8 string touchstyle guitar built by luthier Mark Warr of Warr Guitars. The band's second CD Feed the Silence was released in March of 1999 featuring the addition of keyboards to the band's sound, two songs featuring Weston's vocals and a guest appearance by German Warr Guitarist Markus Reuter (Europa String Choir). During touring following the release of Feed the Silence, drummer Allen Brunelle (Iluvatar) and guitarist Steev Geest (Solaris Guitar Trio/Fingerpaint) replaced Griffin and Aksu. The revamped lineup made their debut at the 5th Annual Progday International Progressive Rock Festival held on Sep 4-5 1999, representing the US amongst several international acts. - (Read more)

The Inevitable Breakups http://www.inevitablebreakups.com You look into each other's eyes and smile. The flowers you gave her lay delicately on the table. The night was magical, and nothing could ever be like this again. "I love you,” she whispers, and you nod in reply, because deep inside, you know where this is going. the inevitable breakups blend powerful music/melodies reminiscent of The Jam/Jimmy Eat World, early rock n’ roll sensibilities of Buddy Holly, and the harmonies of power pop’s finest. The NEW YORK PRESS says, “With a sound and infectious vocal harmonies reminiscent of the Raspberries, Weezer, the Cars and Cheap Trick, the inevitable breakups manage to combine those artists’ musical qualities to full effect with some kick-ass results.” With the release of their debut EP, No Wonder You’re So Beautiful, the inevitable breakups rocketed from the NYC indie rock scene and garnered attention via the strengths of their songsmith, Daniel Stampfel. THE BIG TAKEOVER called the EP which was co-produced by Richard Lloyd (Television), “The golden age of NYC new wave”. The band followed up this EP with a rousing 7-inch release in February 2004. NEON MAGAZINE called this recording “a testosterone-charged rocker of the sort Buddy Holly would perform” and stated that it “captures the raw energy that is so much at the heart of the groups’ live shows”. the inevitable breakups have just completed a brand new album, Ready For Your Next Trick. The album captures the best aspects of the prior releases by combining heady girl/boy songwriting, energetic performances and the immaculate production of Big Blue Meenie producer, Arun Venkatesh. - (Read more)

The ping http://www.thepingpage.com Ping was founded in Bergen, winter 1999 by Mattis Janitz and Jørgen Greiner. The music was at that time made on their Amiga 1200 and a 4-track recorder in a tiny bedroom. The band now operates in Oslo, has risen to the healthy amount of five members and spend merry days in their more up-to-date studio. The process of arranging and recording is unorthodox, where humour and spontaneity is highly appreciated; creative use of various instruments and vocal arrangements flow through a number of genres. The credo is not to hesitate, immediateness leads to perfection, nothing is perfect. - (Read more)
